E64 Dr. Jeffrey Mishlove on Positive Deviance and “Thinking Allowed”

For this episode, the team was invited to record at the home of our guest, Dr. Jeffrey Mishlove, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This was an incredible honor as Dr. Mishlove and his long-running PBS show Thinking Allowed (1986-2002) are a primary influence for the creation of the Authenticity Show.

In addition to being a broadcaster and gracious host, Dr. Mishlove is an author, educator and sole recipient of a doctoral diploma in Parapsychology from an accredited university, awarded in 1980 by UC Berkeley. His books include The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man, and he has redeveloped his PBS show for Youtube, titled New Thinking Allowed.

Listen in as we talk about remote viewing, psychic phenomena, skepticism, M/magic and the secret to happiness. He shares so many great stories and insights from his life, including what led him from criminology studies toward parapsychology as well as the amazing story of his journey to receiving his unique doctoral degree.

Enjoy!

E63 Trans-Generational Dynamics w/Vlado Ilić and Ivan Polić

How can we heal a relationship with someone who no longer lives? How do we dissolve the invisible blockages and untie the Gordian Knot of our ancestral past? How can we commune and draw inspiration from our ancestors and tap into the Spring of Life itself?

Through his publications and educational works, Vlado Ilić has been on a global mission of spreading love and peace. He is a professor of language and communications, systemic therapist and teacher of the Order of Love. In this episode, he joins Carlos and Satch for a conversation about his Family Constellations group therapy workshop which he runs several times a year in Los Angeles with the support of fellow facilitator Ivan Polić.

“With incredible patience, humility, respect, and a lot of love, Vlado opens a space for insight into dynamics that helps us become aware of and integrate transgenerational traumas that reside in our collective and individual unconscious,” which accelerates personal development and establishes an “all encompassing harmony.” (http://www.orderoflove.com/en/vlado-ilic)

Ivan, who is also a successful author, educator, and filmmaker in his own right, served as translator during this conversation while Vlado spoke in his native Serbian.

We are so excited to bring this episode to you, there is truly an incredible amount of wisdom shared throughout. We hope you will come back and share any insights you gained from this one!

And check back to our website soon for a transcript of the episode you can reference as well! We’ll post a link in the comments on social media when that’s available.

E62: The Procrastination Episode (Finally!)

Frankly, we’ve been putting this episode off for awhile now. Like… probably around year or so! (lol) It seems as though the timing couldn’t have been better, however, because Carlos and Satch really got into the zone while recording this one all about procrastination. Not surprisingly, they journey to some really deep places as they discuss some of the psychological, physiological and emotional components at the root of procrastination, as well as sharing several strategies for getting your ass in gear when you need to.

Do you have any tried and true strategies that have helped you successfully navigate around or break past procrastination when you’ve felt stuck there? Please share with us in the comments.

And, just for fun, what are some of your go-to procrastination behaviors? You know, like spring cleaning your home when you really should be writing that thing or making those calls? Please drop a comment and let us know!

Lastly, if you have any questions you want to ask Carlos and Satch about procrastination, you’re always welcome to leave those in the comments for them as well!

E54: The Power of the Picture w/”Captain Voyager” James Wanless, Ph.D.

Author, “Edutainer” and Tarot Reader James Wanless joined us for a fun and interesting conversation about intuition, Tarot, and his unique and fascinating life. James, who is also playfully known as “Captain Pick-a-Card,” is the creator of the Voyager Tarot deck, designed in the early 80’s with vibrant ancient and contemporary imagery that is more relevant for the 21st Century human.

“Voyager Tarot shows you how to achieve your visions and dreams- creating the success you desire. This excellent decision-making tool can help you navigate life- enhancing business planning- relationship building and self-discovery.” (james-wanless.com)

Whether or not you have in interest in Tarot, we know you will love this conversation because it goes much wider and deeper than that subject alone. Episode #38: John Kim Used to Be a Miserable F*ck

In the aftermath of heartbreak and divorce, John Kim discovered a passion to help others and went from an aspiring screenwriter to pursuing a career as a licensed therapist. To process his feelings and frustrations during that time, he began documenting his hero’s journey in a blog he titled The Angry Therapist.

“Why am I angry? Because the system is broken”

While working with troubled youth to collect his required hours for certification, he began to notice a painfully common theme among them: the physically and/or emotionally absent father. Because this rang true for him as well, his passions focused toward studying men’s issues, masculinity, and what it really means to “be a man.”

In this episode he shares about his own upbringing and experiences that have led him toward cultivating his own definition of “being a man. He believes every man must craft this definition for himself. He ultimately wrote a (soon to be released) book about it, titled: I Used to Be a Miserable F*ck: An Everyman’s Guide to a Meaningful Life.

The discussion also turns to the challenges of dating in the present social climate, the importance of “tribe” while on a path of self-betterment, why it’s ok to feel anger, and why dogs are the best therapists.

“I love the word Tribe because I think the greatest misconception about self-help is the word self. We actually are not meant to do life alone.”

Whether you’re a man, a woman, or neither, this episode definitely has something for you. We really love this one and are so curious to know your thoughts and feelings about it, too. We can see some great discussion coming from this one, please come back and share after you have a listen.

Episode #37: Who is Satch Purcell?

His birth was fortold. He was inspired by a monkey to crawl. Who on earth is Satch Purcell?!

In the early days of the show, our co-hosts interviewed one another and those recordings have only been available for listening on the homepage of our website with their bios… until now! You now get to listen in as we release Satch’s full interview as an episode for the first time, which includes the story of how the Authenticity Show was born.

Learn how his unique and challenging early life led to an amazing story of overcoming as Satch shares some significant stories from his life that have contributed to the inspiring human he has come to be. In these stories you get to discover how his early experiences paved the way to a path of mastery, and how they equipped him for becoming the incredibly compassionate and dedicated primary caregiver to the love of his life, Taniya, who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis early into their relationship.

. . .
“Somehow my parents did this amazing job being a guru to me as I grew up. They couldn’t do it for themselves or with each other but somehow they gave me that gift.”
. . .
“My upbringing, and I think my training as an Acupuncturist and my training as an Occupational Therapist gave me the skills that I needed to be able to handle the situation. It has not been easy, but I feel very fortunate that my particular training has given me skills that I can use to give Taniya a better life.”
. . .
“I like to use perspective.” … “Compassion fatigue is something that caregivers have to deal with. All I have to do is flip the script and say, what if I was the one? She’d do so much better than me. Or, what if I wasn’t here? What if she had to face this problem by herself?”
. . .
“Our church is the night sky. The congregation is the plants, and the crickets, and the frogs, and the coyotes, and the skunks.” … “The running that we do feels like a sacred experience and when we’re sharing it we go into a sacred space because of all the trust and authenticity that we share. This show was born while we were running.”

This episode is all about those moments as Satch and Carlos share personal stories about how they got through these kinds of experiences, and is full of practical, real-world strategies for handling all kinds of performance anxiety.

Episode #35: Carlos in Peru – Sacred Submission

“I’m ready to do whatever I need to do to get there.”

Come along with us as Carlos shares stories of his recent trip to Peru and Shamanic ceremony while on spiritual retreat in the Amazon Jungle. Topics in this episode include entheogens such as Ayahuasca in personal development work, and the idea of sacred submission as Carlos tells the tale of his not so common experience with this sacred plant medicine.
